Netflix wants you to earn some pocket money by translating movies and series on the streaming service. But before you can earn money with Netflix, you must first have to pass an online exam.
The exam is part of the new Hermes-translation program, where anyone can log on to. Most of this consists of tricky multiple-choice questions, which presented different interpretations of the same sentence. Another part of the test is about the art of subtitling. Things like the timing of the senses and set line breaks are discussed.
The results are then evaluated by a Netflix employee. Metro news reports that, for example, the translation from English to Dutch returns $11.50 per minute, where you must provide at least ten minutes of material. Different rates will also be applied for different languages.
